6 exams for admission abroad

 Exams

If you are planning to enroll in a foreign university, you probably know that filling out forms and providing existing documents is not enough. In most cases, you will also need to pass international exams, confirming that you speak English and the necessary academic knowledge to study in the chosen program. We tell you what exams you need.

TOEFL or IELTS

These are English proficiency exams. They test 4 language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing - and consist of corresponding parts. Their main difference is in the delivery format: TOEFL is taken on a computer without communicating with a real person, and IELTS is taken mainly in paper form and always with the participation of a native speaker. These exams are required for 99% of English language programs. Most often, the admissions committee specifies both exams in the requirements, so you can choose which one to take. Also, the requirements will specify the minimum number of points for admission to the program. Some universities, along with TOEFL and IELTS, also accept CAE, iTEP. and other exams.

You can take these exams in Yekaterinburg: TOEFL is held in our center every 2-3 weeks, and IELTS - in two other centers every 1-2 months. There are also TOEFL and IELTS centers in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other Russian cities. Other information about TOEFL и IELTS You can find out on our website.

SAT or ACT

These exams are required for admission to US universities. SAT and ACT are similar tests, they both test your academic skills and school knowledge. You will need to demonstrate the ability to use English in an academic setting, as well as to show that you know the school curriculum in mathematics. The purpose of these exams is to test whether you can study on a par with other American graduates. There is also a SAT Subject - this exam tests knowledge of a specific subject (Biology, Physics, History, etc.).

Unlike TOEFL and IELTS, the SAT and ACT may not have a score requirement. In general, this means that you are required to provide a certificate with any number of points. Thus, the commission most often selects the best candidates for the program, so in order to still find out what indicators are expected of you, look at last year's statistics.

You can take the ACT in our center in Yekaterinburg (and other cities), and the SAT in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Exams are held 6 times during the academic year. More about ACT read on our website SAT: on the official site.

GRE or GMAT

Examinations for postgraduate education, i.e. for those who enter the magistracy and graduate school. They test your general level of competence as a university graduate. Each of these tests has its own specifics.

GRE is divided into two types: General and Subject. General tests verbal and mathematical thinking, as well as analytical writing and critical analysis skills. And Subject - highly specialized knowledge on the main subject of your future program (Mathematics, Chemistry, Literature, etc.). GMAT is accepted for MBA programs, and therefore all assignments use business topics and business cases. At the same time, the structure and goals of the GMAT are similar to those of the GRE General.

You can pass all these exams in Yekaterinburg: GRE - in our center 4-5 times per academic year, and GMAT - in another test center on almost any date upon your request. Also, exams are accepted in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk. More about GRE you can find out on our website, and about GMAT on the official site.

Now you know that for admission abroad you will need to pass 1 or 2 exams. If you have already chosen a program, you can find out right now on the university website which exams and which scores you need.

To get the required scores, we advise you to carefully prepare for each exam. Just familiarizing yourself with the format of the exam will not be enough - all the skills tested need to be worked on. Although not all skills can be improved (for example, quickly improve logical thinking), training with a qualified specialist will allow you to learn how to effectively apply existing knowledge and gradually improve your language skills. This will increase your chances of passing the exam, and most importantly, it will help you successfully study in the future program.

You can start preparing for any of these exams with a trial lesson at our school, and for TOEFL and IELTS you can also take a trial test with us.
