Scholarships to study abroad for athletes (in detail)

Almost every university in the USA has the opportunity to receive a full or partial scholarship to train athletes. Most often, universities and colleges are interested in athletes involved in Olympic sports or sports that are popular in the region (rugby, squash, American football, for example) and have significant achievements in the sports portfolio: victories or prizes in competitions of regional, state or international level, title of CCM and above.

There were also scholarship holders in our practice who could not boast of great victories, but who demonstrated their efficiency and just a good level of training to their future coach, while having 1 rank. This may also be enough if the coach has a budget, but there are no stronger candidates for the team, and the team itself does not compete in a particular league in a particular sport. In general, this situation is quite rare.

In addition to the USA, individual scholarships for athletes are found in Germany, Canada and some other countries, but the USA is the only country where the issuance of sports scholarships by universities and colleges is widespread.

It is important to understand that different universities and colleges at different time periods have rather unique needs for athletes. Some schools this year are more interested in basketball players and swimmers, and tennis players and hockey players are not so interested. Others need volleyball girls and rowers. However, in the next semester, everything can change. The most popular athletes are swimming, diving, soccer, volleyball, hockey, athletics, tennis, rugby, golf and orienteering.

As a general rule, athletes are not exempted from the competition and the need to pass exams such as TOEFL or IELTS, SAT, ACT, GRE. Nevertheless, it is not uncommon for the requirements for exam results for such candidates to be individually reduced by default or as a result of the work of a consultant and / or trainer with the admissions committee of the institution. As a result, the entry requirements for each individual candidate have individual characteristics.

The task of a consultant for the selection and filing of applications and packages of documents for a scholarship often consists precisely in finding a suitable interested trainer at a particular university, reaching out to him and convincing the future scholarship holder for the university and the team of this particular trainer. Moreover, in the arsenal of consultants there are a lot of tried and tested ways to solve such problems, communication with previous generations of clients, and, of course, a focus on a positive result was also ridiculous.

It is important to remember that the candidate for the sports scholarship also needs to prepare other documents: motivation letters, essays, letters of recommendation, resumes, as well as prepare and submit documents to “reserve” universities and colleges to maximize the likelihood of receiving full or partial funding for their future education abroad.

That's why you need to come to a personal free consultation and find out about the possibilities of getting a sports scholarship to study at a university abroad in your case.
