Education in Italy: Pros and Admission Process
Education in Italy: Pros and Admission Process

The first stage of training, requiring four to six years of study, ends with a diploma corresponding to the level of the bachelor. For those who wish to continue their education, it will take another two to three years to obtain a degree corresponding to the master's degree. Doctoral studies are possible after passing a three-year practice after graduation from the university or entrance exam. Those who managed to pass the entrance test receive a scholarship.

It is possible to get higher education in Italy not only at universities, but also in numerous professional educational institutions, which include design schools, academies of fine arts, conservatories and other narrowly targeted universities.

Upon admission, it should be borne in mind that for students from Russia who are seeking to study in Italy in undergraduate studies, it is already required to have 1-2 years of education in a Russian university or a certificate of completion of the Italian lyceum. Some private universities may accept a Russian student immediately after graduation, but at the time of admission the student must be 18 years old. If you have a specialist degree, you have the opportunity to go directly to the master.

Pros of education in Italy

  • Higher education in Italy is relatively inexpensive, especially in public universities. Students from low-income families may receive scholarships that will cover the cost of tuition.
  • Universities (especially private ones) have programs in both Italian and English. Most of all English-language programs in the specialties "Economics", as well as in the field of fashion, design and architecture.
  • If you have chosen the field of fashion, art or design as a career, you cannot find a better place than Italy for an education.
  • Italy has a very rich culture and pleasant Mediterranean climate.
  • While studying at an Italian university, a foreign student receives a student residence permit, with him you can earn up to 20 hours a week.

Paperwork for admission

The paperwork should be started several months or even six months before the deadline for filing documents. Draw up documents from January, and submit - from mid-April to early May. The reason it takes so long is the multi-stage admission process and document certification procedure.

  • A school certificate and a certificate of completion of 1-2 years at a Russian university or a specialist diploma, which must be apostilled (the apostille procedure can take 2-3 months).
  • Translation of documents into Italian.
  • Submission of an application to the Italian Consulate for the registration of dichiarazione di valore (Declaration of Value) - confirmation of the diploma.
  • It is impossible to request a questionnaire at the Italian Consulate and make a request to apply to the university (it is impossible to send documents to several universities at once).

On the day appointed for you, you come with legalized documents and a request and give them to the consulate, which in turn will send documents to the university, from where you will then be sent an invitation to the entrance exam.

In addition to such an application procedure, you can resort to the help of the Italian Institute of Culture in Moscow, which can provide all the information about the deadlines, forms for filling and the correct translation.

If the whole procedure was completed correctly and all the documents are executed according to the rules, then you will be invited to the entrance exam. Only after receiving an invitation can you apply for a visa.

For foreigners, the exam takes place simultaneously at all universities in early September. It usually consists of testing your knowledge of the Italian language. At some faculties (medicine, dentistry, pharmaceuticals, architecture, law, engineering, fine arts) you will also need to pass entrance exams in majors.
